Focus timer · Productivity
The expedition only advances while you do.
Start a session and a party sets out across the dark, lit by one lantern. They walk for exactly as long as you stay out of your phone. When the session ends they make camp, and the next one picks up the road where they stopped. Leave the app for more than fifteen seconds and the whole descent is lost.
Nothing to tap
You are not supposed to be touching your phone.
There are no choices and nothing to play with during a session — that is the entire point. The screen is built to be read in one second from across a desk.
Descents
One run, carried across many sessions.
A descent lasts as many sessions as you give it. When a session ends, the party makes camp at the depth it reached; the next session breaks camp and walks on from there. Today’s study session picks up exactly where yesterday’s stopped.
The stakes grow with it. Leave the app during any session and the whole descent is lost, not just that stretch. Choose Return home at camp and everything the party is carrying is banked as ember, with a bonus for how deep it went.
Lock Screen
Lock your phone. The countdown keeps you company.
Locking your phone is not leaving — screen off and face down is the best thing you can do. While a session runs, a Live Activity shows the time left, a progress bar and your current depth on the Lock Screen, and a small flame with the countdown in the Dynamic Island. It is there to be glanced at, not touched.
Reminders are optional: one a day at a time you choose, and a single nudge if your party has been sitting at camp for most of a day. Nothing ever arrives during a session.
The rule
Leave the app and the party stops.
Pick 15, 25, 45 or 60 minutes and set out. Switch to another app and the march halts on the spot. Come back within fifteen seconds and it walks on. Stay away longer and the descent is lost — every session of it — though 40% of the spoils it was carrying still come home as ember.
Ember and the party
What you bring home becomes ember.
Spoils that make it home turn into ember. Ember recruits new members — lantern bearer, scout, warden, finder — and promotes the ones you already have. A stronger party walks further. Your streak, total focused time and deepest run are kept alongside.
What you can count on
Locking is not leaving
Screen off and face down is the best thing you can do — the march continues and the time counts.
Quiet while you focus
No notification is ever sent during a session, and reminders stay off until you ask for them.
Nothing dies
The party cannot be wiped out. Focusing longer is never worse.
Free, and it stays on your phone
Nothing to buy and nothing to sign up for. There is no network code in the app, so it works offline.
In 16 languages
The whole interface is translated, Korean and Japanese among them.
FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
- What happens if I leave the app?

- What is a descent?
- A run that spans several sessions. When a session ends, the party makes camp at the depth it reached, and the next session breaks camp and walks on from there. Choose Return home at camp to bank everything the party carries, plus a bonus for how deep it went.
- Does locking my phone end the run?
- No. Locking counts as focusing. Screen off and face down is the best thing you can do — the march continues.
- What shows on the Lock Screen?
- While a session runs, a Live Activity shows the time left, a progress bar and your current depth. On iPhones with a Dynamic Island, a small flame and the countdown sit there too.
- Will Nightwalk send me notifications?
- Only if you turn them on: a daily reminder at a time you choose, and one nudge about 20 hours after your party makes camp. Nothing is ever sent during a session.
- Is Nightwalk free?
- Yes. There is nothing to buy and no account to create.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes. There is no network code in the app at all. Nothing leaves your phone.
- What is ember?
